Electronic Health Record


Electronic Health Record(EHR) is define as a systematic collection of electronic health information about individual patients or populations. It is a record in digital format that is capable of being shared across different health care settings, by being embedded in network-connected enterprise-wide information systems. Such records may include a whole range of data in comprehensive or summary form, including demographics, medical history, medication and allergies, immunization status, laboratory test results, radiology images, and billing information.

Electronic Health Record has a great contribution to any hospital some of those advantage were the:
reduction of cost, improve quality of care, Promote evidence-based medicine, and Record keeping and mobility. Electronic Health Record provide access to unprecedented amounts of clinical data for research that can accelerate the level of knowledge of effective medical practices. These benefits may be realized in a realistic sense only if the EHR systems are interoperable and wide spread so that various systems can easily share information. Also, to avoid failures that can cause injury to the patient and violations to privacy. It also has a advantage of being able to connect to many electronic medical record systems. Despite the advantages of Electronic Health Record it also has a disadvantage specially in the start of implementing this technology it requires a large cost at the beginning, but all though this Electronic Health Record plays an important role in a hospital in terms of Improving care coordination, Reducing healthcare disparities, Engaging patients and their families, Improve population and public health, Ensuring adequate privacy and security.

Whatever the use of Electronic Health Record either it has a advantage or disadvantage, still i plays a fruitful contribution in hospital setting, simply we just use it according its designed method or the purpose for it.
